April Go Homes, a ferry ride and a rodeo

Hi all-
We had a fun week this week.  We sent three elders home this week.  They went home a little early for various reasons.  They were scheduled to leave on May 16.
Elder Johnson from Canada whose visa ran out before his mission ran out.  Elder Gubler from Las Vegas and Elder Jensen from Utah who were going home for school reasons.
Brent and I took a little trip down to New Orleans to help with zone conference and also to check out an apartment that needed to be closed up and the keys turned back in.  On the way home, instead of driving around the city(the long way), we took the ferry across the river which made the trip shorter for us.  It is a small ferry.  We drove on and then looped around the ferry.  No one gets out of their cars.  It's a short trip, about 7 minutes.
We just missed it! and had to wait a short time for it to come back.   The ferry trip reminded me of all the ferry trips we took while living in Washington State.
The really fun thing we did this week was go to the Angola Prison Rodeo.  The participants are 100% inmates at the prison.  Of course we couldn't take our camera in or cell phones.  They search you.  Well, not like a pat down, but they look in any bags that you are carrying.  So, I only have photos of the outside.  But I will share a link that you can see what they do.  In the link, you will see four guys sitting around a table with a bull in the arena with them.  It's called convict poker.  Whoever is last to leave his chair is the winner.  Also, they have Inmate Pinball.  There are about 20 hoola hoops out on the ground in the arena with an inmate standing in each one.  They let a bull loose and whoever has remained in their hoop is the winner.  You will see a bull with a red chip on his head.  They let him out and whoever can get the chip off his head is the winner.  It is crazy!

They also have a hobby craft area.  Inmates sell what they have made.  Some are out with the public in the selling area and some are behind a fence with a table on the public side of the fence with their stuff on it.  We bought an oil painting and some walking sticks.  Plus, I had to have a hat.

Our 'Preach on Preacher' painting.  I love it.
Brent's walking sticks.  My hat.  It says 'Angola State Pen'.
We had such a great day yesterday.  The weather was about perfect.  On the way home, we stopped at an old plantation and had dinner.
Had to give you a tree shot.  Love you all.
Carol
