New Orleans and Chalmett

Hi Everyone!
We are back at work.....it's just like when we used to both work.  We get up at 6:30 and leave for the office about 7:50.  We live real close so takes about 5 to 7 minutes to get there.  I like that part!  Brent has been learning the financial part of things.....all the bills that have to be paid.  We have 170 missionaries in our mission.  They all have apartments, electric bills, gas bills and support cards.  Support cards are cards that act just like an ATM card.  Brent has to fill them up with $157 dollars each at the first of every month...that's all they get for a month. Their parent's pay into a fund in Salt Lake and then the funds are dispersed to each mission to pay for that missionaries needs.  So they get $157 on their card and rest of the money goes to a car that they might drive and to apartments where they live. Brent also is learning how to find and lease apartments.  On next transfer day, which is February 19th, 19 more missionaries are coming into the mission....of course some are also going home, but not that many.  We have 5 new companionships and new areas will open so living arrangements need to be made.  He also has cars to worry about.  Last Wednesday, Brent drove to New Orleans to sign a lease for an apartment.  It took him half the day.  There was a wreck on the freeway coming back.  I stay in the office and do office stuff....write letters, do statistics, take phone calls, take care of the mail (lots of mail, packages, bikes being sent to the mission) etc.  We have a great pair of office elders.  They help Brent with the car side of things.  They do anything he asks them to do.  It's wonderful.  They do the president's bidding, our bidding.....anything that has to be done.  Also, in the office are the assistants to the president....don't see them very much....they travel with the president....everywhere he goes, they go.  It is absolutely hard work to keep everything rolling!  We went through our first transfer last week.  Whew!  The Gordons are the senior couple we are replacing.  They have been great!  They are doing their best to teach us everything.  On Martin Luther King's Birthday last Monday, the missionaries serving in that area sang the National Anthem at the Hornet's game.  So we got tickets and went with the Gordons and the Walls to the game.
I don't think I have ever been to a professional basketball game before. The missionaries did great.
As you can see, my seat was not exactly close!  We stayed for the first quarter then took off to walk around the city which to me was so much more interesting. I think the Hornets lost to Sacramento.
Things are building up for Mardi Gras which begins February 12.  This gentleman is dressed for the party!

The Superbowl is scheduled 2 days before Mardi Gras.  Yikes!  The streets are narrow and New Orleans is not a very big town.  Decorating the town has begun.
For you super bowl fans.

Want to know what's next for you?  Get your fortune told.

Next we went to the New Orleans Cemetery.  This is a picture of a weeping angel across an alter in a sarcophagus.  It was absolutely beautiful.  To the right in the picture is the receptacle wherein lies the corpse.  There are several somebodies in this crypt.

New Orleans Cemetery is full of these kinds of crypts.  They all contain several bodies.  Families build these then just keep adding folks as they pass on.  I think this would be a great place to shoot a chase scene or a shoot out for a movie. :)
Well, love you all.  Carol aka Sister Olsen
